On Sachin Tendulkar

Something worth being proud of - Time Magazine's quote on Sachin:

" When Sachin Tendulkar travelled to Pakistan to face one of the finest bowling attacks ever assembled in cricket, Michael Schumacher was yet to race a F1 car, Lance Armstrong had never been to the Tour de France, Diego Maradona was still the captain of a world champion Argentina team, Pete Sampras had never won a Grand Slam. When Tendulkar embarked on a glorious career taming Imran and company, Roger Federer was a name unheard of; Lionel Messi was in his nappies, Usain Bolt was an unknown kid in the Jamaican backwaters. The Berlin Wall was still intact, USSR was one big, big country, Dr Manmohan Singh was yet to "open" the Nehruvian economy. It seems while Time was having his toll on every individual on the face of this planet, he excused one man. Time stands frozen in front of Sachin Tendulkar. We have had champions, we have had legends, but we have never had another Sachin Tendulkar and we never will."

Lessons from 'Men in Blue' - A Rise of Team India

Well here is my bit of learning’s from Champion Team India. It’s a Rise from a dream to a reality.

We are in the modern age of entertainment where sports itself is an industry and has a bigger story to tell not only to sportsmen but also to the likes of vivid mango people, a politicians, a businessman, corporate, students, etc. After all, star like Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Jordon much more than an average, mid sized company and now adding to the list MS Dhoni. Star like Sachin, Dhoni are itself industries in their own right.

These sports goliaths operate in a ruthless environment where success and failure are defined with the end of day results. You can either win or lose, no amount of creative campaign, notorious politics, bold Bollywood can conceal the truth of that terrible moments – the final whistle. And here are the notes of learning throughout of the ‘Men in Blue’ journey called as Cup that Counts…….

Lesson 1:  Have a Dream, Vision, Bigger picture in place

Indian team had a vision, mission or dream to win a world cup not for themselves but for Sachin, for country, for team. And team started preparing towards that more than year back. And if you look at the recent records of India before world cup, they have been gradually raising the bar of performance.

No doubt, Indian team did face some setbacks during the journey, they lost to SA, they became complacent and managed a tie with England, they had no easy game but when time demands they fought back really well to pull it back. And in the process they themselves got believed that they can turn around from any situation, they are battle hardened and team had a bigger vision, they could let these things to and regroup to accomplish bigger task. And peak when it is required.

Lesson 2: Leadership

Any truly successful team, organization or country requires strong and committed leadership. And team can have only one leader. Team India lead by MS Dhoni and he leads by example. He always gives the team a 100% of his effort and his energy. He never loses his temper. He is a great strategist. He has got fantastic ideas on the field. And he canvasses opinions and then he makes his own assessments.

Couple of decisions he took during knock out stage of the world cup were a great example of how convince he was on his thoughts. Even many cricket pundits have been surprised by the moves but he didn’t alter his plan and that’s what inspire team to justify and take responsibility to deliver the things on behalf of leader.

Whenever team faulted on occasion, Dhoni accepted responsibility for the team performance. Dhoni’s confidence and self-belief remained rock solid. He took the criticism in a positive stride and worked hard with his team to meet the challenge and win the world cup.

Lesson 3: Winning is about teamwork

The important thing to build a team is, to build relationships, to build trust. And probably the most significant thing that happened to team India has been the relationship that they have built. And it takes time. Through these relationship they have built trust within the team and once you have trust what happen is people take responsibility. People will believe in each other and support them. Its to provide a structure to people. It’s to tell people that they are moving towards something other than their individual glory.

Dhoni will be seldom heard saying, “I,” he is a big advocate of a joint effort and always mentions it to be a team effort rather than his alone. He often uses, “us,” and he is very blunt and honest. He will praise the players where they deserve it and also point out mistakes. He always exudes the oneness in the team.

Lesson 4: Focus on Core Strength

'Jack of all trades and master of none' - this maxim is very true as far as management is concerned. Focus on core strength is necessary for the immediate health of the brand as a whole.

Although India constantly strived to improve the bowling and fielding quality of team India but it did not lose its focus on the core strength, i.e., batting. A successful run chase in knock out matches is an example of this.

Lesson 5: Flexibility

Ability to adapt and respond to the changing environment and to constructively create opportunities for change through active participation is a must for any business. Indian team realized this fact and adapted it to the changing environment. Be it playing in foreign land or acclimatizing to new improved version of cricket. Men in blue have been successful everywhere. They beat Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka all three different teams with different strengths.

Lesson 6: Strategy Formation

The formulation of a sound strategy facilitates a number of actions and desired results that would be difficult otherwise. A strategic plan, when communicated to all members of an organization, provides employees with a clear vision of what the purposes and objectives of the firm are.

That is what Indian team precisely did. As batting has always been the core strength of Indian cricket team, the new strategy of team was to improve bowling and fielding department on occasion. Result of which is reflected in the performance of Indian team. It was surprised fielding efforts against Australia did the trick for India and surprised bowling efforts did the trick against Pakistan.

Lesson 7: Award Responsibility to the Players

One last thing which Indian team implemented is that players are awarded with responsibility. They are encouraged to think for team and themselves both and take charge of their own destiny. A rise of Yuvraj Singh, Confidence of Raina, Belief of Zaheer are only because of sense of responsibility they felt for every game. The greatest learning from Team India I can think of is that how to get best out of the people.

It might appear that since India won world cup all of a sudden all looks very positive. But again, this is what corporate life is all about, keep wining….

God comes after him, in Cricket !!

Here comes a day in International Cricket, double century in ODI and that too from a man who was never short of any records, any fame, any name. He had already conquered Everest in his cricketing career but still he has the same hunger, love, passion which he had 2 decades ago. What a man!!! What a character!!! What an Idol!!!

While writing this I have goose bums all over my body!! I am glazing my pc screen from almost last 30 mins with hundreds of thoughts, millions of words and struggling to put arrays of words to capture a great maestro. He is definitely beyond the words of any one on this planet.

He seems to me greater than cricket, greater than life itself. I am not one who will going to say what he has done was good, what he needs to do now, what next… I am not capable of saying that but what I read from him is that how he has done that!! Can you imagine that he had stopped whole country billions of people from breathing air while moving from 199 to 200. It required some miracle to achieve what he has achieved so far in the reality. Even world’s most prominent politician also is not capable to achieve that. In the finest of analysis I really feel that he is one of the avatar of lord Krishna!!

“Success is a journey, Not a destiny” Sachin Tendulkar. Yes Indeed success is a journey. It all start with your dream, passion, love, dedication, perseverance. As it shown by him, numbers of feathers getting attached on his head, he is getting that much more humble, down to earth person. He was already a legend, he was already a cricketing God. He had more records than any one on this planet; I could go on and on. He has it all; maybe he always had.

It takes a real character to keep your childhood dream going. He has to nurtured his career in a such manner resembling the master act on its life. He always took the utmost care to keep himself away from all the controversies. Sometimes he just gives answer to everyone without any words. This is what makes him different from almost all around this world!! Take a bow man!!

As said by some saints, “Success stays with the person who has a same level of gratitude to keep his/her feet on the ground”. And he has done that. Just imagine what it takes to keep feet on the ground with the amount of fame/name/success he has!! Kudos to you man!! Best of example I can give here is the Tendulkar trademark to look up to the heavens and thank someone up there for yet another milestone.

Doubtless, each one of the celestial fans, ranging from his father to Bradman, and a whole lot of others would have been standing and applauding an epic. Legends by their nature dominate the sport they take to. Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Pele. The list could go on. But seldom has there been one, who has been pristinely clean. And to me, nothing would devastate me more than if I found something ‘not right’ about Tendulkar. May that day never come.

There is lot more to learn from him not in a cricket field but also on the day to day life!! He is the benchmark of the success, inspiration for many generation going to come on this earth.

Stepping into Childhood again!!!

It is Saturday and as usual snoozing morning, not in a mood to go office. It is very hard for a software engineer to work on Saturday and I am protesting it from my first day into the office but who is going to hear me!!! With all the thoughts I commanded myself from bed to tea to office.

It was regular day indeed but don't know why, I was thinking about my childhood, how I was careless about everything, how I was lazy in going school, how I used to play on ground without fear, how I missed my lunch / dinner when India lost cricket match, I think I might be carrying out my night dream into day light. Flashing frames of my childhood making me happy and feel young enough to do any crazy thing today without taking care of anyone around me, without thinking of my liabilities, office politics, personal problems. I just wanted to step into my childhood again!!

I was late for office but I didn't care, will work couple of hours more to finished unwanted job with that thoughts I started to walk towards office ( I am staying near my office, and that's why I always runs late in office) Hearing RED FM 98.3, checking my Gmail on my mobile while walking down the office I saw street children playing cricket in a park near my house. Well I wanted to do something crazy and here I got the chance to do something crazy, it took 2 seconds to decide play cricket with them.

I don't care that I will be late in office but I wanted to feel my childhood again. So I went towards them and requested them to include me also in their game. I was in my office attire, polished shoes but who cares. All children gathered around me and told me that "Uncle aap itne bade ho, bacho ke saath khel nahi sakte" I looked myself from top to bottom and thought "do I look like uncle??" Nope not at all, I am still child from my heart and I am still single, so I can't be uncle so soon in my life. But don't know how those children categorized me into that group.

I again requested them at least allow me to play couple of balls and told them "jo koi muje out karega mein usko inaam dunga" with the hearing of word "inaam" couple of boys turned to my side and said "ok ok…but sirf do ball uncle!!" Well again Uncle, anyways they are organizer of the event so anyways I have to accept whatever they call me. And all set for game. I was just excited as I was playing a final match of any tournament. I don't know it was excitement or achievement but I am sure that I was feeling happy and crazy at the same time.

One boy bowled me first ball and I hit hard, like I needed six runs to win and only last ball was remaining. Couple of children came towards me and told me "Uncle, thoda dhire se maro, nahi to ball gum ho jayega" I smiled to them feeling like I won the mind game of the game. On next ball another boy running towards me and delivered the ball and again I hit good not very hard this time but ball flying into air and one boy caught me near the far end of park. Howzzz that!!!!! Howzzz that!!! All children started shouting, started yelling Uncle Out!!! Uncle Out!!! And they were making a hurdle around me like Indian team is making after getting every wicket nowdays.

Now even I joined them in hurdle and started making noise. I don't know but I was so pumped up, I was again child, I was into my childhood which I was missing, I was smiling with them which have been vanished from my face in this down turn. There were some more elder people like me looking towards me, but who cares about them, I just wanted to do something crazy and I did it!! And I am very much happy and thankful to those children!!

I caught my bag and took two gel pens out of it and gave one to the bowler and other to the catcher. I did shake hands with them as I was giving them "Man of the Match" award in Final of the game!! It was really rare feeling i have felt so far in my life, I was out of this toxic world and into the world where feelings, emotions, desire have some value for money. I was child again when I was bidding adieu from those children and all waves hands towards me with the smile like i was one of them!!

I reached my office 30 minutes late and as soon as I stepped inside my office, child inside me vanished automatically and I was again in this hard, cruel, competitive and fast moving world. But I don't have any complaints because this is my "karmabhumi" and I have to live with in this but with that I need to preserve my innocent childhood which I think everyone is loosing out for survival.

End Of An Aussie Aura

END OF AN AURA

South Africa ended nearly a century-old drought to register their first ever series win in Australia when they crushed the hosts by nine wickets in the historic second Test here on Tuesday.

Here is the again latest example that best in the world will never remain best something bestest (it's my English so I will use it the way I want) will sooner or later will topple it.

So what's the learning from this, of course I am not saying that Australia now become weak team but point here is that other teams are now become more stronger than before.

Its clearly shown up that Australia doesn't have replacement of their Ace bowlers. Mcgrath, warne or they have not adjusted well without them.

Meanwhile ponting has maintained his statuesque but he became the first Australian captain in 16 years to suffer a series defeat on home soil.

Some corporate learning I have found here is that even you are best in surrounding, then also you need to have back up plan for each and every critical position. It's not only important to achieve top position but maintaining that top position is crucial.Changes are inevitable for success and your tectics and strategies should get changed with timeand people.

The UnDisputed "GOD" of the GAME

I don't want to biased with my likings but i know no one will argue with me when i will give a title to little master " Undisputed GoD of the GamE "

It has been now 2 decade not a small period for anyone to dominate. and Sachin has done that. He has same hunger, love, passion for a game which he had 20 years ago. Sometimes i feels that how this is possible where human loses its interest so fast but he has kept his fire igniting all the time.
I truly believe that we need to check his DNA. The Dedication, Determination, Discipline, Dream which he has shown to us is just out of box. I will not say him a leader but " a truly performer ". We all youngster have to learn from him that how to live with a dream and how to make sure you achieve your dream and carry on with that dream.

I don't find anything pending to achieve in his cricket career and there is nothing left to prove by him still he his playing for proving himself. Its just extra ordinary character he has shown to us. A real King of the game of cricket.

we all youngster has something to learn from him. As i am working as Analyst so i always thinks something different in everything. and being an engineer use of bullet points are natural to me. so here is something

  • Its really necessary to work Hard to achieve your dream

  • Your success comes from inside not from outside world

  • Focused on what you are doing not what others are saying

  • Smash your criticisers by your work not by words

  • Be calm, discipline, humble and down the ground don't allow success to enter in your head

  • Don't forget others who have contributed to your success either your family, friends, coach, colleagues, many others

I don't know what i want to say here but i am truly inspired by him, even i am not into cricket but the character which he has shown can be replicated into any Field. He has shown us how to survive in difficult time, how to build your strong points and improve your weak points when things were going odd with you. He has shown how to come back stronger when things going with you.

Even in this young India team where sum of all 10 players experience is equal to his alone experience, he is being as idol player, he is smiling with them, teaching them, standing with them but never shown that what he is and what they are. And he is doing this from last many years. And if we talk about pressure, don't you think the amount of pressure he is carrying for every inning he is playing. We all want century from him in every innings of the game. And for building that expectation you really have to show your character.

Just watched his 41st century, the way he was played, committed and dedicated to his betting was amazing. He still wants to prove himself, he still wants to satisfy himself. And the way he dedicated his century to mumbaikars is really good to find that he is giving back his city which has given everything to him.

Well many things have been already wrote about him and many things will get written about him, this is just little try to capture the unseen of his character.

Even you and me can be sachin tendulkar of our Field, we need not to play cricket for that but we need to dream for that. We need to work hard to achieve that dream, we need to be dedicated and determine to achieve our dream. So please friends live your dream and you will definitely going to achieve in your life.
